Surrender To Avoid Being Hunted Down Followers Of Deviant Group Told
Police arrested the 39-year-old female leader of the group yesterday after recording a statement from her on Thursday.PETALING JAYA: Followers of Perjalanan Mimpi Yang Terakhir (PMYT), alleged to be a deviant group, have been advised to surrender themselves voluntarily to assist police in their investigations and to avoid being hunted down.
Deputy minister in the prime minister’s department (religious affairs) Ahmad Marzuk Shaary said this was to assist police in their investigations to determine the status of the group.
“Police have started investigating PMYT, so I advise all the followers to surrender themselves immediately. We are working with the police in trying to resolve this case,” Marzuk was quoted as saying in Utusan Malaysia today.
“As far as I know, the followers are not widespread and only involve a small group.”
Marzuk also said the department of Islamic development Malaysia (Jakim) will send representatives to assist the police in their investigations as Jakim has a “special team” under its enforcement division, as well as experts who have been monitoring the teachings of PMYT.
“As for the teachings that are said to be deviant, we have to look at the results of the police investigation first,” he said, adding that his ministry was ready to provide counselling to PMYT followers.
Marzuk was speaking to the media after a Covid-19 vaccination outreach programme at a mosque in Kota Bharu, Kelantan.
Police yesterday arrested a woman believed to be the leader of PMYT.
In a recent video of her that went viral on Facebook, the woman claimed that World War III would begin in Sabah and she would lead her followers to find Imam Mahdi and fight the enemy.
Brickfields deputy police chief Basri Sagoni said initial investigations found that the woman claimed she could communicate directly with Allah, the angels and Prophet Muhammad(SAW). She claimed PMYT was revealed to her to guide the people.
The case is being investigated under Section 298A of the Penal Code for causing disharmony, disunity or enmity, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of a network facility. - FMT
