In the kampung, the excitement of families preparing together for the festival is a cherished tradition.
Though harder to replicate in the city, Surau Al Amin Alam Sari's initiative brought the festive vibe to life.
"Although the lively village atmosphere may be hard to replicate in the city, we've made a genuine effort to bring that kampung spirit here," said surau chairman Mohd Zawawi Awang told Buletin TV3.
The event saw residents come together to prepare dodol, a sweet treat requiring hours of effort, with the sounds of stirring echoing through the night, illuminated by oil lamps.
This community-driven programme not only revives the village spirit but also strengthens local bonds.
"Cooking with firewood is becoming obsolete even in villages, where gas stoves are now common. We are keeping this tradition alive here," he said.
"The programme is not just for the older generation but also welcomes young people to take part in the dodol-making process."
Programme coordinator Mohd Hidayat Abd Khalit also welcomed the involvement of youth.
"This is a great opportunity for the younger generation to learn how dodol is made from scratch. Previously, they may have only tasted it, but now they get to experience the entire process. It's both fun and educational for them," he said.
After hours of hard work, the community produced 90kg of dodol, which was distributed to residents.
"While dodol is a beloved dish during Raya, the true essence of the festival lies in the spirit of togetherness and community," he added.
Looking to the future, Mohd Hidayat said, "This initiative will continue to be an annual tradition. With the upcoming construction of Masjid Baiturrahman, we plan to host even larger-scale activities to further strengthen the bonds of unity." - NST
