Sultan Of Selangor Accepts Sanusi S Apology Tells Him To Be Mindful Of Words Etiquette
The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has accepted the apology issued by Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor.
(NST) – The sultan also advised Sanusi to avoid being overly emotional and to use appropriate language when addressing the people, especially in Selangor.
Sultan Sharafuddin, in a letter addressed to Sanusi, which was shared on the Selangor Royal Office Facebook page, said he had considered Sanusi’s apology for the latter’s statement made on July 11, 2023 at Taman Selayang Mutiara, Gombak, Selangor.
“I therefore consent to accepting Dato’ Seri’s apology in the name of unity among the Muslims and Malays.
“I do not want Muslims to always be in conflict with one another. As fellow Muslims, we must always forgive if the person seeking forgiveness is sincere in their request,” Sultan Sharafuddin said.
The sultan also advised Sanusi to be mindful of his words and etiquette, avoid being overly emotional and not use inappropriate language when addressing the public, particularly in Selangor.
“I do not want the people, especially those in Selangor, to be influenced and accustomed to hearing harsh words and baseless accusations, especially from leaders,” he said.
Sultan Sharafuddin advised Sanusi that good behaviour and speech are crucial for the future of his political career.
“As a leader, Dato’ Seri must consider the consequences of every action taken,” he said.
Yesterday, Sanusi issued a public apology to Sultan Sharafuddin over his remarks during the state election campaign in July last year.
Sanusi, during a Perikatan Nasional (PN) ceramah in Selayang, was reported to have belittled the appointment of Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shaari by the Sultan of Selangor.
Sultan Sharafuddin, in turn, said Sanusi’s speech had insulted the royal institution and questioned the wisdom of the ruler.
On July 18 last year, Sanusi pleaded not guilty at the Selayang Sessions Court to two counts of uttering seditious remarks that could incite disloyalty towards the rulers.
Sanusi’s apology yesterday was acknowledged by Sultan Sharafuddin earlier today.
Sanusi, in his apology, also gave his word that he would be more careful in making any statements in the future and ensure that his speeches are in line with the Malay customs, which are highly respectful of the Malay Rulers and the royal institution.
