Kelantan Religious and Malay Customs Council president Tan Sri Tengku Mohamad Rizam Tengku Abdul Aziz said the amount is derived from the allocation for the Ruler's programmes which had been lined up during Ramadan.
"The Sultan of Kelantan hopes that the donation will bring cheer to the underprivileged, orphans, religious students as well as the needy.
"As the state's head of religion, the Ruler is concerned about the difficulties faced by his people over the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as the implementation of the MCO and the total lockdown, which also will affect the poor," he said in a statement.
Tengku Mohamad Rizam, who is the Tengku Temenggong of Kelantan, added that the Sultan remained concerned over the Covid-19 situation in the state although the number of cases has experienced a slight decline.
"The Sultan is still worried about the cases as the figures are still alarming. The Sultan is also unhappy with reports that the state's health facilities are now at critical level and that the number of Covid-19 low-risk quarantine and treatment centres have increased," he said.
Tengku Mohamad Rizam said Sultan Muhammad V has called on all people to continue praying to seek Allah's protection from the pandemic.
"The Sultan of Kelantan has also urged his people to adhere to the guidelines set by both the federal and state government in order to not only break the chain of infection but also prevent the emergence of new clusters in the state." - NST
