Stop Being A Rabble Rouser By Stoking Racial Tension Kedah Mb Told
Kedah Amanah chief Ismail Salleh slammed state Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor for claiming that Local Government Development Minister Nga Kor Ming has a hidden agenda to revive the local government elections by emulating Singapore’s Housing and Development Board (HDB) housing plans.
Ismail, in a statement today, lambasted Sanusi (above) for being “shallow-minded” and thinking maliciously, calling the latter a rabble-rouser in invoking racial sentiments to protect PAS’ political interests.
“Sanusi is trying to poison the minds of the Malays by saying the minister wants to bring local government election from Singapore when he (Nga) just wants to imitate the neighbouring country’s housing development ideas.
“Everyone knows that the quality of public housing in Singapore through HDB is very high compared to Malaysia’s.
“What’s wrong with us learning from Singapore? Just because we want to copy Singapore’s housing development doesn’t mean that we want to bring everything from there,” he said.
Ismail was referring to Sanusi’s speech on Monday (Jan 23) where the latter alleged that Nga’s “biggest objective” is to restore local government elections in the country.
Kedah Amanah chief Ismail SallehIn a speech during Grand Finale Ekspo “Sik Sejahtera”, Sanusi claimed that certain cities will be dominated by a certain race and the local councillors would come from one single race who would then enact the bylaws.
“Our cities will not be madani cities. Anwar Ibrahim has not realised this yet. It goes against the Malaysia Madani goal.
“In the end, DAP will decide who will conquer the cities,” he alleged.
The Kedah PAS chief also claimed that DAP, through the Local Government Development Ministry, is implementing a “New Silk Road” agenda to China.
“Strategic location in Malaysia from Johor Bahru, Seremban, Malacca, Kuala Lumpur, Ipoh, Penang, Perlis, to Thailand up until Hong Kong and Taiwan, this has all been arranged and it’s named the New Silk Road.
“This project is stopped in Kedah and Perlis because these states are under PAS.
“The New Silk Road will be stopped, and this will be pushed into the Pacific Ocean,” Sanusi said.
What about your dealings with China?
In response, Ismail took a swipe at Sanusi for signing a memorandum of understanding with Jangka Bakat Minerals Sdn Bhd and China’s Xiamen Tungsten Co Ltd on the exploration, technical assistance and mining of rare earth elements in Sik, Kedah.
“This is why I say Sanusi and PAS have not moved on yet. When the Sultan of Kedah decreed (the state government) to do good with the federal government for the benefit of the people, he (Sanusi) is still playing racial issues.
“If it’s true, it’s not a problem. But it’s all just Sanusi’s imagination,” Ismail stated.
Meanwhile, Nga has repeatedly said that restoring local government elections is not a priority for the people at the moment.
His ministry, he said, is prioritising the people’s livelihood and everyday issues, despite knowing that the “third vote” - after federal and state elections - is part of the democratic process.
“We understand that local government elections reflect democracy. But there are priorities.
“The most important thing for me now is to revive the economy. We have to also ensure the roads are level, street lights are bright, toilets are clean and drains are unblocked.
“My work is not going to focus on what I want, but based on what the people want,” Nga said.
Last December, when Nga clocked in for his minister job for the first time, he also told the media that restoring local council elections will not be the immediate focus of his ministry. - Mkini
