Starbucks To Offer Ev Charging At Its Malaysian Stores In Partnership With Yinson Greentech

More than 20 EV chargers are now installed in 17 stores across Klang Valley, Penang, Johor and Malacca



Starbucks Malaysia, in partnership with Yinson GreenTech, today unveiled among the first of its electric vehicle (EV) charging station, powered by chargEV, which has been installed at Starbucks Eco Grandeur in the township of Puncak Alam, Selangor. Over the next three years, more EV charging stations, comprising both DC fast chargers and AC charging points, will be built within Starbucks vast network of drive-thru stores in Malaysia as part of the brand’s commitment to be a more resource-positive company.

The installation of EV charging machines in Starbucks stores is the first for a retail coffee chain in Malaysia. It also offers a unique opportunity for customers as they can look forward to unwind inside the store with their preferred Starbucks beverage while their cars recharge outside. The current lack of adequate charging infrastructure remains a significant deterrent for many to purchase one. But with the addition of Starbucks stores to the charging network, Malaysians may inspire a peace of mind when it comes to adopting zero-emission cars.

chargEV is the nation’s largest public charging network operating over 400 charging points nationwide. Two types of charging points are offered based on the EV users’ charging needs: the DC fast chargers at 50kW allow quick charging speed that typically do not exceed an hour while the standard AC chargers slowly charge EVs beyond the hour, which is suitable for those who are not in a hurry and want to enjoy a cup of coffee with friends or by themselves.



To utilize the charging stations, EV drivers will need to download the chargEV app via the Apple Store or Google Play store to activate their charging sessions. EVs of today feature Type 2 and CCS2 combo plugs that are compatible with charge.

Charging an EV is done via the chargEV mobile app. First time EV users are required to setup their profile in the app, which only takes a few minutes. Next, select the preferred charging station and view the charging fee via the pay-per-use feature. The app does not require a membership but users can opt to subscribe to a one-year commitment, which offers exclusive promotions and discounted membership rates at all chargEV AC and DC charging points in Malaysia.



Starting from today, there are 26 EV charging stations at 17 Starbucks stores within Klang Valley, Penang, Malacca and Johor.

Beginning 1 November 2022, Starbucks customers who are active chargEV members charging their EVs at one of the 17 Starbucks stores can enjoy up to 50% off their first Grande Handcrafted Beverage purchased in a single receipt. Customers simply need to flash their chargEV membership ID on the mobile app at the counter to redeem. The promotion is valid for 12 months and subject to the terms and conditions of the promotion, which are made available at the participating Starbucks stores and on the chargEV Facebook page.
