Spiritual Leader Indians May Vote For Bersatu Candidate Because Of Pas
Governments come and governments go, more frequently in the past six years in Malaysia. But there is one lingering complaint - “Indians are marginalised”.
However, PAS spiritual leader Hashim Jasin believes Indian Malaysians are becoming more confident in Islamic leadership.
Therefore, he said it is not impossible that the community would vote for the Perikatan Nasional candidate Khairul Azhari Saut in the Kuala Kubu Baharu polls on May 11.
“Although the candidate is from Bersatu, they will support him because Bersatu is with PAS and PAS supports the Bersatu candidate,” Hashim added.
Attributing this shift to the grace of Allah, the spiritual leader said non-Muslims supporting an Islamic movement is nothing new.
Perikatan Nasional candidate Khairul Azhari SautAccording to him, this is because non-Muslims see “honesty, justice and stability” in Islamic leadership.
Uptick in support
Hashim also credited the PAS non-Muslim supporters wing (DHPP), which comprises mostly Indians, for the uptick in support.
“I am confident of DHPP’s role in attracting Indian voters because they have been with PAS for a long time and have been given the opportunity to be a senator.
“Based on their observation, they have faith in the direction of the party’s struggle and (are confident) we will not victimise any race.
“In Kelantan, the Siamese and Chinese communities can accept (PAS) because the state government’s policies help the people without differentiating this race from that race,” he added, according to Harakah Daily.
The grievances of Indian voters in Kuala Kubu Baharu have also been a hot topic during the campaign period.
For this election, the Malaysian Indian People’s Party (MIPP), which became a PN component party last month, has also been canvassing for Indian votes.
