Sorry No Offence Meant Says Khalid Over Najib S Application For Pardon
Amanah communications director Khalid Samad said the question of a royal pardon for Najib Razak is no longer an issue.PETALING JAYA: Amanah leader Khalid Samad said the party’s decision to apologise to Umno over its objection to Najib Razak’s pardon application was to ensure that “no party is offended and all parties can move forward”.
“I apologise if the statement offends or hurts Umno. It is appropriate to ask for forgiveness because it is not the intention of the statement to hurt any party.
“The purpose of the apology is so that we can move forward,” the Amanah communications director told FMT, adding that the Pardons Board had convened and would consider the application “at the right time”.
Last Sunday, Amanah deputy president Salahuddin Ayub apologised in front of Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi at the deputy prime minister’s Aidilfitri open house at Seri Satria in Putrajaya.
It followed Khalid’s statement that Amanah had appealed to the King to reject Najib’s application.
The former Shah Alam MP’s statement was criticised by Umno leaders, including “threats” to end political cooperation in Kelantan.
Khalid said the question of a royal pardon for Najib was no longer an issue, and all parties needed to focus on strengthening relations in the unity government to face the state elections.
“The important thing is that we unite to face the upcoming state elections. Zahid has already mentioned that we focus on what has been mutually agreed upon, so it is no longer an issue,” he said. - FMT
