The Royal Malaysian Police or PDRM appears to be split. Just like in Pakatan Harapan and PKR itself, there are the pro-Anwar Ibrahim and the pro-Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad factions.
This is the thing about the armed forces and the police. While the armed forces serve the country and the rakyat, the police serve the government-of-the-day, whoever that government may be — meaning the police serve the political masters.
In PDRM’s case this is even more so considering that the IGP, Abdul Hamid Bador, has openly and publicly stated that his loyalty is to Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir. In other words, by his own confession, Hamid is a tool or servant of Dr Mahathir and not a servant of the police force.

IGP Hamid Bador has openly and publicly sworn loyalty to Dr Mahathir Anyway, it appears that there are certain forces within PDRM who are serving Anwar and who are trying to bury the Sodomy 3 case involving an allegation by Muhammed Yusoff Rawther that Anwar tried to rape him. Then there are certain forces within PDRM who are all out to make sure that the Sodomy 3 case sticks. They also say they are preparing to throw Sodomy 4, 5 and 6 cases against Anwar as well to make sure that Anwar never becomes PM8.
Since there is no penetration involved in Sodomy 3, they will need “other” evidence to pin Anwar down — and one such evidence is getting Yusoff to undergo a polygraph or lie-detector test. After that test is done, and if it proves Yusoff is telling the truth, the police can then ask Anwar to undergo the same test.

Yusoff Rawther will undergo a polygraph or lie-detector test after which Anwar will be asked to do the same According to the police, they are almost sure that Anwar will refuse to be subjected to a polygraph or lie-detector test — and the police cannot force him to do so. But if Yusoff agrees and passes the test while Anwar refuses to do the test, then politically it would look bad for Anwar although legally his refusal to undergo a polygraph or lie-detector test does not mean he is guilty.
Anwar’s people said this is a political move to block him from becoming PM8. That is true but then is this whole thing about ousting Mahathir on or before May 2020 not also political? There is a political move to try to get rid of Mahathir so the move to block this from happening also has to be political. That is called fighting fire with fire or giving you a taste of your own medicine.

Tommy Thomas and not the police will decide whether to charge Anwar or not Whatever it may be, the pro-Anwar and pro-Mahathir forces within PDRM are locked in a power struggle of their own. One group is pushing for Sodomy 3 and another group is blocking Sodomy 3 from happening. A certain police officer has even threatened Yusoff and asked him to withdraw his allegation against Anwar and Yusoff has revealed the identity of that police officer to his friends lest something happens to him or he disappears or ends up dead — like what has happened to so many Malaysians before this.
