Sng Wants Home Ministry To Issue New Sop For Speedier Crime Lab Results
PARLIAMENT | Julau MP Larry Sng has called on the Home Ministry to detail new standard operating procedures (SOP) for criminal laboratory test reports.
This follows his close shave with the group of local gangsters in Julau, late last month.
The Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) president said while the investigation of his case was completed by the police, the authorities were still waiting on the official laboratory lab results on the accused before further action.
“I would like to thank the Home Minister (Saifuddin Nasution Ismail) and the local police for taking serious action, but as of today, the report of the official results of the laboratory test for drug use on the accused has not yet been obtained.
“I understand that the laboratory test process takes between one to three months, even though this is a high-profile case and was given priority by the police.
“I would like to call on the ministry to speed this process, not just for my case, but for new SOP for criminal laboratory test reports as a whole, as such reports should be done within a week,” he said during his debate on the Royal Address by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar at the opening of the First Meeting of the Second Session of the 15th Parliament.
Local gangsters encounter
Last month, Sng said he ran into a group of local gangsters in Pakan district, Sarawak who had planned to attack him.
Sng said the gangsters have forced local coffee shop owners to purchase their contraband in Pakan and Julau and have squeezed profit margins from the shopkeepers.
Those who resisted were threatened, he added.
The four suspects, aged between 32 and 53, were arrested on Feb 12, less than 24 hours after Sng lodged a report on the matter.
Meanwhile, Sng requested for police reporting systems to be made available in Pakan town, as there are none available.
“Currently, any police report can only be made in Julau town and it takes time to process,” he said.
Pakan and Julau are situated approximately 66km away from each other and require an hour’s drive. - Mkini
