Shouldn T Tunm Wifey Deserve A National Level Birthday Bash To Commemorate Their Statesmanship

THAT both admirers and detractors alike showered Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad who turned 100 on Wednesday (July 10) with birthday wishes from the world over in a big way has prompted an opposition leader to wonder if there should be an official celebration to commemorate such historic feat.
Perhaps as mooted by some stanch fans, even a public holiday for that matter as it is a rarity that longevity can be stretched thus far as evident from the twice firmer premier having outlived most if not all his comrades from his maiden premiership tenure.

As icing on the cake, wouldn’t it justify a formal birthday bash given Dr Mahathir’s most loyal companion Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali is herself clocking 99 today (July 12)?
Who then can blame an excited Bersatu supreme council member Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan to insinuate that political differences should be pushed aside in this matter.
The Tasek Gelugor MP whose proposal was inspired by the large turnout at the Saidina Umar Al-Khattab Mosque in Bukit Damansara to attend a prayer and thanksgiving ceremony for the legendary couple on Thursday night (July 10) penned on his Facebook page:
However, I wonder why there is no official state-level event to celebrate such a meaningful date for an elderly statesman.
There are only personal speeches from government leaders. For me, this is not enough.
Whether friends or foes, nobody can deny that Tun Mahathir is a statesman. There should be an official ceremony which doesn’t need to be grand by the government for this legendary couple. It doesn’t matter if it’s small as long as there’s one.
PMX’s extended greeting
Talking about political divide standing in the way, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was described by one Madani government backer as possessing “a saint-level sense of forgiveness” to extend a birthday wish to his mentor-turned-nemesis.
“Azizah and I sincerely pray that Tun will continue to be blessed with prosperity, peace of mind and physical strength to live a meaningful life,” penned PMX on his FB page,
“His healthy lifestyle and never-ending charity serve as an example to a nation that is aging yet bestowed with high hopes.”

Who would believe Dr. Mahathir would break his own record of being the “Oldest Living PM” during his second premiership stint to be Malaysia’s longest serving former PM to-date by having clocked 22 years and 22 months.
True to the age-old adage that “there are no perfect leaders”, Dr Mahathir’s two biggest unpopular decisions during his heydays are likely the removal of Justice Tun Saleh Abbas (then Lord President) and PMX as deputy PM which eventually lead to the birth of the Reformasi movement in September 1998. – Focus Malaysia
