Selangor Dap Umno Youth Building Chemistry Through Joint Events
The two parties’ youth leaders are stepping up efforts to disseminate information about their cooperation in the unity government after years of political animosity.
(FMT) – After years of political animosity, DAP and Umno youth leaders in Selangor have begun promoting unity through joint events and engagement sessions throughout the state.
Selangor DAP Youth chief Ong Chun Wei said both his party and Umno were stepping up efforts to disseminate information about their cooperation in the unity government, even at the divisional level.
He said this was the rationale behind a recent gathering of the two parties’ state youth leaders in Shah Alam.
“There are no prejudices, only that we were not accustomed to this form of cooperation because we had been at odds for a long time,” Ong told FMT, adding that both DAP and Umno were willing and ready to improve relations.
He said Selangor Umno Youth chief Imran Tamrin had met DAP members at its Sungai Besar division as well as in Sepang.
“I think many other divisions have started (engagement sessions). The grassroots members have also begun accepting this (cooperation),” he said.
Ong said he was confident a strong bond will form between DAP and Umno as well as other parties in the unity government in the near future.
Imran said both Umno Youth and DAP Youth were organising joint programmes to build “chemistry” and strengthen cooperation.
Last week, Umno Supreme Council member Ahmad Maslan and DAP national publicity secretary Teo Nie Ching urged their parties’ members and supporters to vote for one another’s candidates in the six state elections in a bid to strengthen the unity government.
Umno and DAP are both part of the unity government, which comprises Pakatan Harapan, Barisan Nasional, Gabungan Rakyat Sabah and Gabungan Parti Sarawak.
