Seen As Threat To Malays Syed Saddiq Reminds Dr M Of His Vision 2020
Unfazed by his ex-mentor Dr Mahathir Mohamad branding him as a “threat” to the Malay race, Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman pointed out that the former once promoted a united Malaysia under Vision 2020.
Syed Saddiq said he is merely a product of that vision.
“Being a proud Malaysian does not make me less of a Malay. I am of the Vision 2020 generation.
“This was your brainchild. The first challenge of Vision 2020 was to build a Malaysian society that was united. This was once your vision, Tun,” the Muda president said in a statement on his Facebook today.
He stressed that Malaysia is a harmonious society of many different races, religions and cultures.
Earlier today, Mahathir labelled Syed Saddiq as someone who purportedly threatens the Malays and Islam.
The former prime minister’s remark came after Syed Saddiq censured the nonagenarian over his divisive tales of non-Malays wanting to change Malaysia’s name and that promoting a multiracial Malaysia is against the Federal Constitution.
In his statement today, Syed Saddiq said he knows Mahathir truly loves the Malay race.
The 30-year-old former minister said his pride in being Malaysian does not weaken his love for the Malays and their history.
“I am not fighting against the Malays, but I want to make sure the new generation of Malays can succeed, be independent and take on the world.
“The new generation of Malays will prove to everyone that Malays can succeed without having to shun other races because in the end, all of us Malaysians complete each other,” he said. - Mkini
