Schoolgirl Injured In Crash En Route To Getting Online For Lessons

(Bernama pic)LARUT: A schoolgirl has suffered serious injuries after a road crash on Friday while travelling across town to get internet access for her lessons.
Siti A’isyah Mohd Idris, 17, was riding her motorcycle on the Jalan Rantau Panjang-Selama road to her uncle’s house in Taman Permai 2, Selama, when she was involved in an accident with a BMW car at 9.45am.
She suffered a fracture on the left thigh, jawbone injuries and had to receive stitches. She is currently being treated at the intensive care unit of the Taiping Hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.
Her story was relayed by her sister, Siti Nurzulfa Mohd Idris, 22 when met by Bernama at their house today.
She said her sister, a student at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Datuk Haji Hussein, needed internet access to follow the home-based teaching and learning sessions (PdPR).
“Due to poor internet access, my sister had to commute from our house in Kampung Baru Batu 3 to our uncle’s house, almost 7km away in Pekan Selama,” she said.
Siti Aisyah’s plight on social media has gone viral and received the attention of netizens who were sympathetic to the fate of the science stream student.
Siti Nurzulfa, who is a final year student in applied science at Universiti Malaysia Terengganu, said most houses here had experienced poor internet access for many years.
She said this made it difficult for schoolchildren here to follow PdPR lessons.
She said she had forwarded complaints to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission several times but the situation had yet to be rectified.
Selama assemblyman Mohd Akmal Kamarudin, when met, said 10 telecommunication substations would be upgraded through the Jendela Programme this year and next year in Selama to overcome the poor internet and phone coverage. - FMT
