(MAIK pic)KOTA BHARU: A 14-year-old schoolgirl has come forward to pay RM10,000 in business zakat (tithe) to the Kelantan Islamic religious council and is the youngest business zakat payer in the state.
Putri Mumtaz Sunnafis Luthfiya, or Piya, was accompanied by her parents when she paid the business zakat for the year 2022 to the council on Thursday, Bernama reported.
She handed the money to chief zakat officer Ameer Azeezy Tuan Abdullah in the presence of her mother, Bibi Hasnalinda Zainal Abidin, 46, and father Mustaman Che Yusof, 60.
Putri Mumtaz, the sixth of eight children in the family, is a Form 2 pupil at Kubang Bemban secondary school in Pasir Mas, near here.
She said the money was from a food replacement product business she worked on for four months from September last year.
She said the business had generated sales revenue of RM400,000.
“I didn’t think at this young age that I would be able to reach six figures in sales by working on my own products. In fact, despite generating that much sales I also did not forget to fulfill this fourth pillar of Islam,” she said.
She said she had heeded her parents’ advice on making the zakat payment. “I hope that the zakat payment will be able to help the needy,” she said.
The religious council said Putri Mumtaz is the youngest zakat payer in Kelantan and hoped her action would be an inspiration to all. - FMT
