Sarawak Dcm Forgot To Put Mask Back On Money Is For Purchases

Sarawak Deputy Chief Minister Awang Tengah Ali Hasan reportedly said he would pay a compound for failing to wear a facemask in public.
Awang Tengah (above) said that he had forgotten to put his mask back on while rushing off after a meal.
This came after a video showing him walking past a row of food and beverage stalls without a mask had gone viral on social media platforms.
In the 25-second clip, he also appeared to be handing out money to five traders as he walked past and collected a drink from one of the stalls.
According to Borneo Post today, police have contacted him about the issue and informed him that he would be issued a compound, which he intends to pay. The incident reportedly occurred during his visit to Matu.
"The stalls usually operate on weekends. I went to the stall and bought some food and drinks and took off my face mask while having my food.
"But it was my mistake, I was in a hurry to leave Matu, and I did not realise that I was not wearing my face mask," he was quoted as saying.
Awang Tengah added that he was in a hurry at the time, and the money for the traders was to pay for his purchases that his special officer would collect later.

"While walking hurriedly, I did not realise that my face mask was off as I was in a hurry to leave as per the advice of my special officer and the helicopter pilot, who had alerted us to leave for Kuching. So I gave money to the stallholders and told them to pack my purchases.
"I have been contacted by the police saying I will be issued a compound. I admit my mistake, and if issued the compound, I will pay it," he reportedly said.
Awang Tengah did not disclose the quantum of the fine, which has yet to be issued at the time the report was published.
The maximum fine for individuals flouting standard operating procedures for curbing the Covid-19 pandemic is RM10,000, though the recommended amount for failing to wear a mask while in public is RM1,500.
The wearing of facemasks in most public places has been mandatory since Aug 1, last year. - Mkini
