Sarawak Dap Psb To Begin United Front Talks Tomorrow

Sarawak DAP deputy chairperson Alice Lau has announced that her party and Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) will commence negotiation for a “united front” for the 15th general election (GE15) on Monday.
Lau told the Borneo Post yesterday that she will represent DAP along with party treasurer Chiew Chin Sing and secretary Alan Ling while PSB president Wong Soon Koh will also be part of the negotiations.
“GE15 will be held anytime and there is a possibility it may even be after Hari Raya or after Hari Gawai," she said, adding that talks will centre on ideology and candidate choices.
"If the outcome of the negotiation is successful, we may then rope in other opposition parties to talk about forming a united front,” she added.
This is as opposition parties need to avoid vote-splitting and Lau hoped that the anti-party hopping law will be enacted soon, saying that Malaysia had become a mockery with three prime ministers emerging from one election.
Sarawak DAP deputy chairperson Alice LauEarlier in the month, Sarawak DAP chairperson Chong Chieng Jen, said that while remaining a part of Pakatan Harapan, Sarawak DAP has full autonomy to form alliances with any political party in the state.
"From the results of the 2021 Sarawak election, it is obvious that there is a need for the major opposition parties in Sarawak to work together to take on Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS)," he said.
Harapan suffered a major setback in Sarawak after DAP only won two of the 24 seats it contested while PKR was wiped out in all 28 seats. Amanah also failed to gain a single seat despite contesting in eight.
The final result saw GPS forming the state government with a super majority after winning 76 out of 82 seats, while the opposition bench comprising DAP and PSB have six seats collectively.
This contrasted strongly with the 2018 general election which saw the combined opposition making inroads by winning 10 out of 31 of Sarawak's parliamentary seats. - Mkini
