Sabah Woman Links Dap To Online Harassment Of Her Daughter
A political dispute over the Likas quarantine centre has led to a police report about sexual harassment.KOTA KINABALU: A political dispute over the Likas quarantine centre has led to a Sabah woman lodging a police report that her daughter suffered abuse on social media from a man she believes to be a Sabah DAP member
The woman, a 58-year-old pensioner, whose identity was withheld in the report, claimed that the man had insulted her daughter and her family with vulgarities on social media
Her daughter, Nicole Ava, also wrote in a Facebook posting that she had been sexually harassed online by the man. Ava demanded an explanation from Sabah DAP leaders
FMT has learnt that the abuse started when Kota Kinabalu MP Chan Foong Hin, who is Sabah DAP secretary, responded to MCA complaints about the Likas quarantine centre
Sabah MCA Wanita chief Pamela Yong had written about the poor conditions at the facility, attracting the attention of former Prime Minister Najib Razak
Ava said she had lodged an official complaint to the health department on May 16, but no action had been taken. She had wanted to raise her complaints with Chan and responded to Chan’s posting on Facebook
She said the online abuse began after that
“The post went viral but we were undermined by the responsible authorities and was even discredited so the reality of the issue was undermined. First, we were victims of an unsanitary quarantine centre set up by the responsible authority. Second, we are victims of online sexual harassment,” said Ava
Kota Kinabalu police chief Habibi Majinji has yet to confirm whether police have received the report. - FMT
