Sabah Scandal Azam Indirectly Confirms Videos Are Real Warisan Rep
MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki’s move to resume questioning after receiving the forensics report on videos tied to the Sabah corruption scandal hints at the evidence’s possible authenticity, said Warisan assemblyperson Justin Wong.
ADSThe Sri Tanjong assemblyperson argued that while Azam (above) had not disclosed the forensic report’s findings to the public, the latter had “indirectly confirmed” the authenticity of the 10 videos during a recent press conference.
“If the videos were fake or edited, the MACC would have halted their investigation and classified the case as ‘no further action’, following standard investigative procedures.
“If the videos were not authentic and verified, why would all involved Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) lawmakers be called back for questioning?” he questioned in a statement yesterday.

Sri Tanjong assemblyperson Justin WongHe asserted that the graft busters are unlikely to waste time probing fake or edited videos if there are no strong elements or evidence to necessitate further investigations.
“Based on Azam’s actions and statements regarding the progress of the corruption scandal investigations, the people of Sabah realise that the videos are genuine, even though he has not explicitly confirmed this,” Wong added.
Another round of questioning
On Thursday, Azam told reporters that he could not reveal the authenticity of the videos just yet, as to do so would be “prejudicial” at this juncture.
Instead, Azam said he has ordered investigating officers to summon all the individuals related to the videos for another round of questioning, following which the deputy public prosecutor could comprehensively review the investigation from all angles.
Azam added that he has instructed the case officers tasked with investigating the scandal linked to the approval of mineral mining licenses in Sabah to wrap up their investigation within a month and a half.

On March 11, a whistleblower identified as Albert surrendered video recordings that showed several Sabah leaders and assemblypersons purportedly involved in separate discussions about alleged bribes linked to a mineral exploration project in the state.
The man had come forward to provide the purported evidence after Azam doubled down on his claim that there was too little evidence in the case implicating several Sabah assemblypersons, including Chief Minister Hajiji Noor.
Previously, Wong urged Hajiji and the implicated assemblypersons to resign after new evidence, including WhatsApp messages, was submitted to the MACC, stressing that the GRS leaders should choose an “honourable exit if they still love Sabah”. - Mkini
