Sabah Pkr Chief Slams Ignorant Dap Man
Christina Liew says Tawau DAP Youth chief Thien Ee Hang should have checked his facts before making any accusations against her.PETALING JAYA: Sabah PKR chief Christina Liew has criticised DAP for claiming she had failed to carry out her responsibilities as Tawau MP.
Responding to claims by Tawau DAP Youth chief Thien Ee Hang that she had been absent on the ground, Liew said the accusation was uncalled for.
She said she always accepted constructive criticism but Thien had failed to do his “homework” first before attacking her.
“It is unfair of Thien to undermine a Pakatan Harapan (PH) comrade and question my absence from some of the parliamentary sittings.
“Secondly, he has belittled the work I have done as Tawau MP since I was elected in May 2018.
“It shows his ignorance of all the activities I have carried out so far in Tawau and the media coverage that was given in both the national and local media,” she said.
Liew added that Thien probably had “ulterior motives” as he had conveniently chosen to be oblivious to the issues she had raised in both Parliament and the state assembly.
“It is totally misleading to claim that I have asked only two questions in the Dewan Rakyat,” Liew said.
Yesterday, Thien cited the MyMP website which claimed that Liew had only attended 24 of the 79 Dewan Rakyat sittings.
He said Liew’s alleged tendency of being absent was a matter of concern as the 15th general election (GE15) was approaching and PH needed to defend the seats it won in the last general election (GE14).
According to Liew, she missed the tabling of Budget 2022 last October because she had a fall and fractured her left wrist while visiting her constituency.
As for the parliamentary sitting in March this year, Liew said it had partially clashed with the 16th state assembly sitting. Besides being Tawau MP, she is also the Api Api state assemblyman.
She said she had been active and had raised several issues with the federal government through parliamentary sittings.
This included the proposed devolution of powers to the state government, expansion of the Tawau Airport, rehabilitation work on several primary schools and laptops for school children from the B40 category.
Meanwhile, Liew clarified that she had set up the Tawau Parliamentary People’s Service Centre in 2018 to serve the needs of her constituents.
“I have a team of dedicated officials on the ground to receive complaints from the people. We consider their requests for assistance as much as possible,” she said. - FMT
