Sabah Govt Proposes Cmco Extension
The Sabah government has proposed an extension of the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO), which is scheduled to end on Monday, as the number of Covid-19 cases in the state is still high.
Sabah Local Government and Housing Minister Masidi Manjun, however, said the state government still needed to seek the views and advice of the State Health Department on the matter.
“The number of Covid-19 cases is still high in Sabah. Therefore, it is clearly necessary for us to propose the extension of CMCO period in this state," he said during the daily Covid-19 press conference yesterday.
Masidi said the state government was also refining the proposal to relax the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), particularly those involving several economic and business sectors that were not seen as contributing to the infection or increase in the number of Covid-19 cases in Sabah.
Masidi said the proposal would be highlighted for consideration by the National Security Council (MKN) Covid-19 Management which would convene today.
“The MKN will decide according to the needs and requirements from the State Disaster Management Committee on Covid-19.
"The state health department is also in the committee and therefore, decisions are made based on the department's advice.
“But if there is any relaxation on the CMCO, it will focus on business-related SOPs, this is to boost the economic sector. On the social aspect, any form of gatherings is still prohibited ” he added.
Meanwhile, Masidi said medical services provided in hospitals throughout Sabah were at the optimum level and all Covid-19 patients were given appropriate treatment.
Malaysia reported a record high 1,755 Covid-19 cases nationwide yesterday with Sabah remaining the highest contributor with 1,199 cases.
Sabah has suffered more than half the fatalities recorded - 143 out of Malaysia's 279 Covid-19 deaths.
