How do robot waiters work ?
The robots are first programmed with important details like food pick up and delivery point. It is also programmed with the number of tables and its positioning. This step is crucial as each restaurant is different in terms of the setting and positioning. Robots are also set to take it slow when moving around the corners or humps. Each robot comes with an inbuilt camera which covers different areas like the front part, down part and upper part. Every robot is also equipped with laser sensor technology. This is often called LiDAR. It works to provide a vision on what is in front of it. This laser sensor also guides the robots on how to act looking at the situations around. The worker or server in the restaurant simply just has to place the food and beverage on its tray provided and click on the table number and press ‘GO’. he robot will eventually deliver the food and beverage to the customer.
Bottom line
The usage of robots in replacing manpower has been done for a long time and is still going strong. However, it is not recommended to be used in small food businesses as it is even easier to cater to customer’s needs and oftentimes the areas would be small that the existing owner/worker would be able to cover it. It has its Pros and cons on its own hence it is important to identify and compare both the elements before utilizing it. |
