A Thai security spokesman said the 61-year-old Malaysian, known as Yee Boon Long, was also found with several Thai aliases, including Anucha Saeyeoh.
"The suspect, who was a contract killer, was getting off a bus from Hat Yai to Bangkok when he was arrested on Wednesday.
"Thai police also discovered 69 gold necklaces, a gun, and ammunition on the suspect," said the spokesman.
He said the suspect had previously robbed a gold shop in Hat Yai in 2017 and was released from prison about 18 months ago.
"He is now being escorted back to Songkhla province for prosecution," he added.
On April 8, the suspect robbed the Thai Udom 2 gold shop on Montri 1 Road in Hat Yai at about 11.55am (Thai time).
Shop workers reported that a gun-wielding, masked robber seized approximately 2.25kg of gold jewellery, valued at over 7 million baht (RM920,000), from the display cabinets before fleeing the scene on a motorcycle.
Following the robbery, the Hat Yai provincial court issued an arrest warrant for the suspect, who also goes by several aliases, including the Thai name Anucha Saeyeoh.
Thai authorities placed a 100,000 baht (RM13,100) bounty on his capture, describing him as having a notable criminal background.
Yee is also suspected of murdering two Thai brothers, Montree Saekung and Srirat Saekung, at a rented house in Tambon Koh Yor, Songkhla's Muang district, on May 22, 2014.
In Malaysia, Yee is reportedly wanted for robbing a gold shop in Butterworth, Seberang Prai, in Penang, around 20 years ago.
He allegedly made off with gold worth 50 million baht (RM6.5 million) in that incident before fleeing to Thailand.
According to a source, Yee is also wanted in Malaysia for allegedly working as a contract killer, with approximately 10 victims linked to his name.
After fleeing to Thailand, Yee reportedly purchased a fake Thai ID card in the Chai Prakan district of Chiang Mai province for 250,000 baht (RM32,800), assuming the identity of "Anucha Saeyeoh".
It was reported that Thai police have arrested the suspect in Nonthaburi district on Wednesday evening. - NST
