Roads Around Kl City To Be Closed In Run Up To National Day Say Cops
KUALA LUMPUR: As many as 18 roads around the city will be closed from Friday (Aug 26) to Aug 31 for the National Day parade.
City police chief Comm Datuk Azmi Abu Kassim said Jalan Sultan Hishammuddin towards Dataran Merdeka and Jalan Raja would be closed on Friday for a skeleton crew rehearsal from 6am to 12pm.
"From Saturday (Aug 27) to Aug 29 full rehearsals will be carried out. As such Jalan Raja, Jalan Travers, Jalan Damansara, Bulatan Hishamuddin as well as Jalan Kinabalu toward Cheras and Selayang will be closed," he said in a statement on Tuesday (Aug 23).
He said while no road closures would occur on Aug 30, a number of roads would be closed for the Merdeka Parade on Aug 31.
"The roads to be closed are Jalan Raja, Jalan Travers, Jalan Damansara, Bulatan Hishamuddin, Jalan Kinabalu, Jalan Kuching, Bulatan Dato Onn, Jalan Tun H. S. Lee, Jalan Hang Lekiu, Jalan Hang Kasturi, Jalan T. A. Rahman, Jalan Raja Laut, Jalan Munshi Abdullah, Jalan Dang Wangi and Jalan Bunus 6," he said.
Comm Azmi urged the public who wished to see the Merdeka Parade to use public transport and to come early to avoid jams.
"Those planning to drive their own vehicles must be aware that parking spaces are limited,” he added.
Comm Azmi said that parking is available at Masjid India in front of the Dang Wangi police headquarters, Jalan Sultan Salahuddin as well as the multistorey parking lot near Bukit Aman.
He also urged e-hailing vehicles to drop off passengers near Masjid India and Jalan Parlimen.
Comm Azmi reminded the public not to park illegally and obstruct the flow of traffic.
