Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamarudin.KUALA LUMPUR: Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamarudin has denied allegations that her ministry was involved in awarding a RM300,000 project that led to a Central Leadership Council (MPP) member being sacked last week
This RM300,000 allocation never existed and she had no knowledge about it, she said when asked to comment on the sacking of Bera PKR division leader Zakaria Abdul Hamid from PKR
Zakaria’s dismissal came after the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) had sent a letter to PKR advising the party to take action against him for allegations that he was involved in corrupt practices in the PKR polls last year
MACC later said it had made a “mistake” in sending the letter to PKR as it was not its normal policy to send out such reports to any political party on their investigations
PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail had used MACC’s letter to defend the PKR’s decision to sack Zakaria and an ordinary member from Pahang, Ismail Dulhadi
When contacted today, Zakaria said he did not know whether this RM300,000 project came from the housing ministry or otherwise
He said he only knew about the project from grassroots members who sought his advice
“I am not the contractor (for the project)
“The information on the RM300,000 project was obtained from a member, who got it from an advertisement on the Bera district council’s Facebook,” he said
Zakaria has been given two weeks to appeal against the expulsion and has claimed that the party had not given him the opportunity to defend himself or hear his side of the story
He said the MACC had investigated allegations against him but had not charged him with any offence. - FMT
