Rickshaw Idea Won T Work Without Incentives Amanah Man Tells Pas Exco

If it is true that the Kelantan government intends to attract young people to work as rickshaw drivers, it should recognise that they need to be given incentives to guarantee their income, said Kelantan Amanah deputy chairperson Che Ibrahim Mohamed.
He said that in the current situation, to be a rickshaw driver in the state as proposed by a member of the PAS administration was not viable as it is not a job that can generate income for young people.
"Apart from the lack of interest, the community's demand for rickshaw services is also very limited.
"It is impossible in today's situation to expect Kelantan youths to choose rickshaw pedalling as a job to earn a living," Che Ibrahim told Malaysiakini today.
He made this comment in regards to the proposal of Kelantan Community Unity, Culture, Tourism and Heritage exco member Md Anizam Ab Rahman, who called on the youths, including the unemployed in the state, to use the job opportunities available, including being rickshaw operators.
Che Ibrahim added that a focused effort is needed so that the rickshaw service does not disappear in Kelantan.
Che Ibrahim MohamedAt the same time, Md Anizam said the state government was trying to find rickshaw pullers in Kelantan to replace those who are ill and those who have passed away.
Che Ibrahim said if it is true that the Kelantan government intends to maintain this vehicle as an alternative mode of transportation, especially for tourism purposes, it should be aligned with providing certain incentives.
"The state government needs to provide various incentives to attract the youth, including offering monthly incentive payments and other subsidies.
“Rickshaws should be seen as a heritage that needs to be defended, not as a job to make a living.
"Therefore, the government needs to think of mechanisms and incentives to attract youths to respond to the call," he explained. - Mkini
