Retired Cops Hold Anti Communist Rally In Kl

Eleven retired cops associations converged in Kuala Lumpur this morning to show their disapproval against the alleged revival of communism in the country
Attended by about 1,000 people, the event, which took place at Padang Merbok, saw several police veterans deliver fiery speeches protesting the ideology and calling on the authorities to take stern action against those who attempt to revive communism.

The event started at about 9am and ended around 12pm

Retired Senior Police Officers' Association of Malaysia (Respa) president Ismail Che Ros said certain incidences that happened this year were not a coincidence but pointing to the revival of the communist ideology.

"Thirty years have passed and we didn't hear of any (communist) threats but beginning September, their (former communist members) first action was bringing in (former Communist Party of Malaya secretary-general) Chin Peng's cremains into the country without approval from any party.

"Then, they displayed banners and Chin Peng's picture... after that, (there was an incident) of the national flag being displayed upside down... are these coincidences? Or did they happen on purpose?" he said in his speech.

Ismail added that the gathering of former CPM members early this month revealed their intention to revive the communist ideology.

"Two gatherings, one in Sepang and another in Kajang, were also attended by politicians, NGOs, and academicians, where their speeches were weaved with the elements of communism," he said.

Ismail urged the government to be careful and prevent the revival of CPM.

"To the new government, we urge them to not take the matter lightly. They must be careful and ensure that CPM does not gain power."

In a media conference later, Ismail said while there's a concern about the spread of communism in the country, he is unsure who's the mastermind behind the alleged movement.

"If CPM wants to be revived it must go through a legal process which is under the Registrar of Societies. We are sure their application will not be approved.

"Our side is not clear on who is the backbone behind the movement... but of course, the Special Branch knows," he added
Former inspector-general of police Hanif Omar (above) was also at the rally and was seen in tears before delivering his speech.

"Almost everyone in society has forgotten about what we have been through... we were the first fighters in the world who fully defeated the communist revolution and we did it twice. This was (because of) our spirit," he said.

Hanif recalled the past where he claimed that the communists had slaughtered three of his uncles and many people he knew were tortured in Teluk Intan, Perak.

"Who were their leaders? It's Chin Peng," he said.

Later, in a media conference, when asked the difference between the communists and the British, Hanif said the British were invited by the Malay rulers to develop the Malay states
"Many people don't know (this), they thought that the British were the colonialists in the Malay land... (but) no, the British were invited by the sultanates to develop Malay states except for Johor as the king had given Singapore to the British
"He (the Johor king) saw how the British developed Singapore. So there's no need for the British to do anything for Johor, he (the king) himself brought manpower from China and Java to develop Johor
"(Former prime minister) Tunku Abdul Rahman, before he went to London (to discuss independence), he went to see the Malay rulers first and requested their permission to allow him to negotiate with the British to get them to retreat... and the rulers gave him their permission (restu)," he said. - Mkini
