Report Seven Linked To Suspected Covid Cases Escaped Quarantine Centre

CORONAVIRUS | Seven men with links to suspected Covid-19 cases are reported to have escaped from a quarantine centre in Kuala Lumpur on Monday
According to a source quoted by The Star, the men - Indonesians and Bangladeshis - were living at Selangor Mansion (photo, above), Menara City One and Kampung Baru with suspected coronavirus cases
It was alleged the men made good their escape in the early morning hours of Monday. Their disappearances were reportedly discovered about 10am that morning by doctors making their rounds
They were to have been quarantined up to May 7, The Star reported online last night
Kuala Lumpur police chief Mazlan Lazim referred the matter to the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma), which oversees quarantine centres
Health officials conducted screenings at the PKNS flat in Kampung Baru last month following a Covid-19-related death there
It was later reported that some 23 residents were found to have tested positive
Meanwhile, Menara City One, Selangor Mansion and the area surrounding Masjid India were placed under enhanced movement control order (MCO) for several weeks due to the number of cases there. However, the order was lifted on May 3
There are a high number of migrant workers living there. Ahead of the lifting of the enhanced MCO, the government rounded up hundreds of undocumented migrants in the locked-down areas
Rights groups have argued that such crackdowns would force migrant communities into hiding and that would dent efforts to contain Covid-19 infections
In response, Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yakoob said all the 586 undocumented migrants arrested during the raid were tested for coronavirus and found to be negative
As such, Ismail said critics should instead be thankful to the government as the tests would prevent further spread of the disease. - Mkini
