Report Pn Mulls Dropping Support For Ismail Sabri
Perikatan Nasional was mulling whether to withdraw support for Ismail Sabri Yaakob as prime minister, according to a report by The Star.
The report claimed that this was being considered because Ismail Sabri did not honour his purported agreement to appoint Bersatu MP as a deputy prime minister.
Ismail Sabri was reportedly scheduled to meet a PN delegation yesterday about the agreement. However, the meeting was cancelled at the eleventh hour.
The PN delegation comprised Bersatu secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin, Bersatu supreme council member Azmin Ali, PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan and PAS vice-president Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar.
According to the report, the Bersatu supreme council on Tuesday was "generally in agreement" that a withdrawal of support was necessary if Ismail Sabri could not be persuaded to keep his word.
Apart from the agreement, the report also suggested that Bersatu leaders were unhappy with other aspects of Ismail Sabri's leadership.
The report also cited Bersatu deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu as saying that Putrajaya was withholding funds from Bersatu politicians.
"This is very unfair. They are trying to cut off our influence on the ground, but it is hurting the rakyat," said Ahmad Faizal, who is also the youth and sports minister.
The report claimed that some Bersatu figures are upset that they were removed from GLC positions.
However, Azmin, according to the report, dissented and left the Bersatu leadership WhatsApp group after the meeting.
Azmin told The Star that the party should stay committed to Ismail Sabri's government because it was on the right course. - Mkini
