Rep Urges Health Ministry To Clarify Myeg S Covid 19 Rapid Test Kit

CORONAVIRUS | Perling state assemblyperson Cheo Yee How has urged the Health Ministry to clarify the approval status for a rapid testing kit promoted by My EG Services Bhd (MyEG) to assist Malaysians in early detection of the Covid-19 virus
This comes after the Health Ministry dismissed the product as fake and MyEG later clarifying that it was still awaiting approval from local authorities and the ministry's certification
"This is because if a layperson unfamiliar with the device make a wrong reading and failed to consult a medical practitioner, there is a high chance the spread of Covid-19 could be more serious," said Cheo (above)
The test kit was featured on MyEG's official website, offered at RM99 per kit, or RM990 for a set of 10
He pointed out that recent developments have also shown the rapid testing kit in initial testing stages by medical practitioners
Cheo, as such, urged the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry, as well the Communications and Multimedia Ministry, to investigate MyEG's portal over its sale of the rapid test kit
MyEG yesterday said the rapid test kits have been cleared by health authorities in China and Europe, where they are already being widely used
"Due to the simplicity of use for the testing kit, MyEG believes that it is an accessible option to increase testing amongst Malaysians to help assist in early detection and further prevent the spread of the virus
"It will also help give Malaysians some peace of mind given its relative ease of use," it said in a statement
MyEG also said it is working in parallel to accept pre-orders in order to secure availability from its partner, an undisclosed Chinese biomedical firm, to ensure sufficient supplies once certification is received. -Mkini
