Remember Your Promise Umno Tells Ph After Kiandee Retained As Pac Chief
Umno vice-president Mohamed Khaled Nordin says it will be embarrassing if Pakatan Harapan decides to ignore its manifesto. (Gambar Bernama)PETALING JAYA: Umno today criticised the decision to retain Ronald Kiandee as the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairman after he joined PPBM, accusing Pakatan Harapan of going back on its manifesto
In urging for the post to be given to an opposition MP, the party’s vice-president, Mohamed Khaled Nordin, said the ruling coalition had openly pledged in the past that the post would go to the opposition
He said PH had been adamant the post should go to an opposition MP on grounds that it would ensure the committee was impartial
“It will be disappointing and embarrassing if PH decides to ignore its manifesto and pledges made prior to the 14th general election
Didn’t PH promise to ensure integrity in the administration?” Khaled said in a statement
Yesterday, Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said there was no plan to hand the post to the opposition after Kiandee joined PPBM. Kiandee quit Umno in December
Mahathir, who is also the PH chairman, said the coalition’s promise for PAC to be led by the opposition was “only policy and not institutionalised or part of the constitution”
But Khaled said such views were misplaced
“Even though it is not stipulated in the Federal Constitution, it does not mean good practices should be discontinued, especially when PH had made such a promise,” he said
Barisan Nasional had nominated Parit Sulong MP Noraini Ahmad to take over as PAC chief. - FMT
