Ramanan Remains Silent On Kj S Threat To Expose Him
GE15 | Pakatan Harapan Sungai Buloh candidate R Ramanan remains silent on the threat made by his opponent Khairy Jamaluddin to expose and destroy him if he recycles the controversy surrounding the ECM Libra issue.
When met at his campaign trail in Kota Damansara today, Ramanan declined to comment on Khairy's speech on Sunday, which a short video clip of it has been circulated on social media.
The video clip showed Khairy warning the PKR candidate against recycling a slanderous old issue.
"If they continue to slander me, and if they continue to recycle all baseless accusations, I will fight back.
"We know the background of this PKR candidate and we can look into it. We can even expose it tonight (Sunday).
"But I am telling (you), don't test my patience. If you test my patience, I will go after you and I will destroy you," warned Khairy.
The BN candidate said he wanted the election campaign to be conducted in a healthy manner.
"I want to do this campaign like a gentleman and in an orderly manner.
"Don't get me into a gunfight. Don't challenge me, I will fight back.
“I came here because I believe I am a good representative of the people of Sungai Buloh," added Khairy.
Ramanan first raised the matter on ECM Libra in an interview with Malaysiakini published on Nov 5, when he questioned why there was attention to his 2014 civil case, but not those in which Khairy was involved.
BN candidate for Sungai Buloh Khairy JamaluddinThe ECM Libra issue involves Khairy's purchase of the merchant bank's shares at US$2.6 million, through a soft loan from the company's founders.
It became a controversy when the troubled ECM Libra was allowed to merge with government company Avenue Capital, soon after Khairy bought the shares.
At the time, Khairy's father-in-law Abdullah Ahmad Badawi was the prime minister, and the Public Accounts Committee investigated the matter.
Public pressure forced Khairy to sell his shares in ECM Libra.
In a civil case in 2014, the KL High Court found Ramanan had obtained RM5.5 million fraudulently by presenting a forged letter, which led the plaintiff, psychiatrist M Mahadevan, to believe Ramanan could obtain rent owed to him by the Defence Ministry.
The Defence Ministry had used the psychiatrist's land as a firing range.
Following the verdict, Ramanan resigned as MIC treasurer-general.
He returned the RM5.5 million to the plaintiff, and the lawsuit was settled out of court.
Ramanan told Malaysiakini that the matter was a business misunderstanding and had been resolved amicably.
No criminal charges were made against Ramanan. - Mkini
