Rais To Kula Stop It Before The Rakyat Stops You
(NST) – Former Umno minister Tan Sri Dr Rais Yatim joins those who have been criticising a statement made by M. Kula Segaran that the government is considering taking in foreign workers from Africa for the plantation sector.
Posting his reaction on Twitter, in all caps, Rais did not hold back as he told the Human Resources Minister to “stop it before the rakyat stop you”.
“Stop the Africans from coming to our shore,” Rais, who is now a Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) member said.
“Madness is already here via Bangladesh, Pakistan, India, China and what have you,” he added.
Rais went on to say that Malaysians should be trained to live with their hands and minds and that they should be given better pay.
This is not the first time Rais has been critical of Kula Segaran. In July last year, at the height of calls being made for the Human Resources Minister to resign, Rais said, “This minister has lost his credibility because he does not know how to carry himself as a Cabinet member.”
Kula Segaran told reporters in Cameron Highlands yesterday that Africans were being considered because foreign workers from Vietnam and Indonesia no longer expressed interest to work in Malaysia due to salary.
“I have been discussing with the ambassadors of African nations recently, and they will get the views of their respective governments on the matter,” he was quoted as saying by Bernama.
Soon as the news made it online, many took to criticising it.
Asked to comment about the matter today, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in Langkawi said the matter, at this point in time, was merely a suggestion in its proposal stage.
