Rafidah Changing A Government Cannot Be Akin To A Change Of Garment

Fomer cabinet minister Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz said political stability can only be achieved if the government has a long-term vision for the country's development.
"Political stability should focus on things for the long term....when a change of government is akin to a change of undergarment, and it involves a dirty undergarment. We've been there (in the government) for decades and would only adjust policies if it is necessary.
"But now, they make new policies when in power. That's why it's a short-term government (which makes new policies) for survival," she said in the 'Keluar Sekejap' podcast hosted by Khairy Jamaluddin and Shahril Hamdan.
Rafidah, a political veteran who was a longtime Wanita Umno chief in the past, said the people need a government which prioritises their needs.
"We need a government which thinks about development rather than one that is afraid it won't win (in the elections) every few years, to a point that it makes new policies.
We can't have this. we need to look beyond that."
When answering Khairy's question about Umno, Rafidah said she has not been a member of the party for a long time, describing the party as having been derailed from its struggles.
"I stopped a long time ago, but they didn't review and want to expel me. (I quit) because I saw it going in a different direction. We were used to (the leadership) under Tunku Abdul Rahman and Tun Abdul Razak," she said.
When asked by Khairy if she still holds affection for the party, she said her affection is only for the party's struggle, not for the organisation.
"I don't have affection for the organisation, but I have affection for the struggle. If the struggle is right, we love it. This struggle has gone astray. I won't jump into the ditch with them; I'm not that foolish," she said. - NST
