Quit Or Axe Apandi Trains Guns On Ags Past And Present Over Addendum
Attorney-General Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar should resign or have his service terminated for not being transparent on the existence of the addendum related to former premier Najib Abdul Razak, said his predecessor Mohamed Apandi Ali.
He said Dusuki’s immediate predecessor, Ahmad Terrirudin Mohd Salleh, who is now a Federal Court judge, should also be held responsible since the decree from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong was specifically addressed to him.
“He also must be removed from whatever post he is holding. The government must be firm on this issue.
“The rakyat is watching. The Federal Constitution must be upheld and so must the rule of law,” he added in a comment in response to a Facebook post on the matter.
Apandi (above, left) had served as the AG from 2015 to 2018. He replaced Abdul Gani Patail, who was removed from the post at the height of the 1MDB scandal.
He later cleared Najib of any wrongdoing in the 1MDB and SRC International cases.
PM’s admission
The Facebook post which Apandi responded to was on a news report, which quoted Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim stating that the addendum was sent to the AG.
Ex-AG Ahmad Terrirudin Mohd SallehLast Saturday, Anwar said after the letter was received, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong had changed, and the AG submitted the letter to Istana Negara to allow the newly appointed Agong, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, to make a decision.
“The decision (addendum) was sent to the AG… not to me… not to members of the Pardons Board.
“And the AG, when the new Agong was installed, (the AG) sent to Istana Negara as the king chairs it (the Pardons Board),” he added.
The prime minister also denied accusations that his government had concealed the existence of the addendum for Najib to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest.
Ex-PM Najib Abdul RazakNajib is serving a six-year prison term in relation to the SRC international case and is expected to be released in August 2028.
The former premier, who is also embroiled in other 1MDB-linked legal battles, was initially sentenced to 12 years imprisonment but the Pardons Board, chaired by the Agong, halved this last year.
The board also reduced his fine from RM210 million to RM50 million. - Mkini
