Putra Heights Residents Allowed To Return Home In Stages

SUBANG JAYA: Residents affected by the gas pipeline fire in Putra Heights here have begun returning to their homes in stages, Petaling district officer Huzunul Khaidil said today.

Huzunul said the phased return was being carefully managed to ensure the safety of residents, with priority given to homes that were not damaged or posed no significant risk.
“We have started relocating residents in stages. I hope everyone will cooperate, as safety remains a concern,” he said to residents here today.
The first phase of the return process began this morning, involving 41 houses at Jalan Putra Harmoni 1/3A and 1/3B.
“Once residents return to their houses, we will assess the situation based on their feedback before giving the green light for others to follow,” Huzunul said.
He said up to 115 families were expected to return home today, subject to conditions on the ground.
The fire, which broke out on Tuesday morning, engulfed a 500m section of the gas pipeline, injuring 111 people, many of whom suffered burns and respiratory issues.
A total of 399 vehicles were affected, with 225 destroyed by fire and 174 damaged. Meanwhile, 538 residents from 120 families were relocated to two temporary relief centres.
Subang Jaya police chief Wan Azlan Wan Mamat urged residents to cooperate with the authorities to ensure a smooth return process.
“No matter our race or religion, we are all working together this morning, and we hope our efforts will be successful,” he said.
He said the relevant agencies were on-site to assist residents, but advised them to remain vigilant after returning home.
“Please work with us and be aware of your surroundings. Make sure to check your homes and look out for each other, as we do not want anyone to take advantage of the situation,” he said. - FMT
