 We must count Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu as part of Malaysia. When you do that you will realise that the Pakatan Harapan have just got their butts kicked yesterday (12 Aug 2023). Out of 245 State seats that were contested the PH won only 99 seats or 40%. That is failing grade. The Perikatan Nasional won 146 of the 245 state seats or 60%.
And most certainly the PN must have picked up more total votes cast. Folks, these polls were across SIX States. Quite certainly if a General Election were held today (across the SEVEN remaining States) the PN would also win with about 60% of the seats. The PH would be kicked out. This is not empty talk. The PN picked up 60% of the seats they contested. That is a major win. And they won the Kuala Terengganu Parliamentary seat (by election) as well. The PH is quite dead.

 


The other thing to note is that just 10 months ago in November 2022 Nurul Izzah lost her Parliamentary bid for Permatang Pauh. "Nurul Izzah was defeated by PN by a majority of more than 5,000 votes".

So the Permatang Pauh Parliamentary seat is with the PN now. Then in yesterday's State elections (12 Aug 2023) the PKR (Pakatan Harapan) lost ALL THREE State seats within Permatang Pauh as well.
"PN won all the three state seats in Permatang Pauh, the parliamentary seat first won by Madani and his family since 1982"

Since 1982 (41 years ago) Permatang Pauh was the birthplace of Madani's political career, it was the crucible for wife Wan Azizah's first venture into politics and the cradle for daughter Nurul Izzah's baby steps in following her parents. But the people of Permatang Pauh are now saying in unison, across one Parliamentary seat and THREE State seats  'Get Lost. We Dont Want You Anymore'. If there is such a thing as 'the writing is on the wall' this is it. If you cannot read the writing on the wall, well prepare to be kicked out.

PKR, UMNO and Amanah have failed. 56% fail rate for PKR. 74% failure rate for Amanah and 82% failure rate for UMNO.
Within the Pakatan Harapan, the PKR, Amanah and UMNO are now more beholden than ever to super solid DAP with its 98% success rate.   The PH can now change their name to Pakatan DAP.

The people in Sarawak and Sabah will be watching this latest results very carefully. The captain of the ship is blind but he says he can see, he is quite the moron but he thinks he is clever, the crew and the passengers dont want him anymore. So Sabah and Sarawak, you might want to lower the lifeboats - to save yourselves.

In Penang's 40 seat State Assembly the PN has gone from ONE seat (?) to winning 11 seats. DAP has maintained itself well with 19 seats, UMNO has been kept at status quo with only TWO seats while PKR has EIGHT seats. 
Of the 11 PN seats in Penang, Pas has seven seats while Bersatu has four. If ever the DAP teams up with Bersatu both of them can still form the Penang State government -  a thought that need not be beyond anyone's comprehension.  Who says it is not possible? Recall this picture :


 

In Selangor the PH has lost their 2/3 majority. The PH has 34 seats and the PN has made significant inroads with 22 seats (in the 56 seat Assembly). UMNO has won only TWO seats in Selangor.

Hard questions for Zahid, Madani after PN trounces Umno

Umno’s poor performance is expected to lead to calls for changes and for Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to step down as party president.

PETALING JAYA: Umno was soundly defeated in most of the 107 seats it contested in the state assembly elections in six states held today, continuing its dismal run of electoral performances since 2008.

Preliminary results indicate that the lion’s share of Malay-majority seats in Kelantan, Terengganu, and Kedah were won by Bersatu and PAS, the two Malay-Muslim-based components of the opposition coalition Perikatan Nasional.

PN also made inroads into Malay-majority seats in Penang, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan.

Political observers had predicted that another poor outing for Umno could spell trouble for Madani's unity government.

UMNO was humbled in the 15th general election in November last year, winning only 26 parliamentary seats. The party was wiped out in seven states.

Tonight’s results are expected to lead to calls for Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, arguably Madani's closest ally, to step down.

Such a scenario would raise questions about the future of the unity coalition, and by extension, the federal government, as another Umno leader may not be inclined to continue the alliance with Pakatan Harapan.

Zahid had resisted calls to step down after GE15 and went on to strengthen his grip in the party with no contests for the presidency allowed in this year’s party elections.

He has also purged his critics within Umno, including former Selangor Umno chief Noh Omar.

Now, hard questions are likely to be asked again of Zahid.

Umno grassroot members are also expected to reflect on the consequences of its collaboration with PH, especially with DAP, which some top leaders were sceptical about in the aftermath of GE15.

Party insiders have warned that if changes do not follow another devastating loss, Umno would be at risk of seeing grassroot members leaving the party.

But there are also hard questions for Madani and PH, especially over its plans to shore up support from the Malay community and whether it can rely on Umno to turn things around ahead of the next general election, which must be held by 2027 at the latest.

On paper, GE16 is still some time away, but for Umno and Madani, the search for answers must have already begun.
