Power Rate Exemptions For Low Usage Consumers
Tenaga Nasional says consumers who use less than 600 kWh a month will also enjoy higher incentive rates for energy efficiency.
A new national power tariff from July 1 includes exemptions for households with low usage, says Tenaga Nasional.PETALING JAYA: Consumers who use less than 600 kWh a month will be exempted from the new retail electricity tariff beginning on July 1 and enjoy higher incentive rates for energy efficiency, Tenaga Nasional Bhd said today
“The new tariff was designed to introduce a fairer, affordable and more transparent fee structure for domestic users,” the power company said in a statement. “By using electricity wisely, domestic users will be able to reduce their electricity bill.”
The energy efficiency incentive varies based on usage, and rewards lower consumption with higher savings, according to the TNB website. Most households with low to moderate usage are expected to be shielded from significant impact under the new structure.
Yesterday, the Energy Commission said some 23.6 million domestic users in Peninsular Malaysia will enjoy fairer electricity rates, and in turn lower costs of living, through the new tariff schedule approved by the government.
The new tariff schedule includes an extension of off-peak consumption hours to cover all of Saturday and Sunday, and 10pm to 2pm from Monday to Friday.
In the new tariff scheme, from July 1 to the end of 2027, the base average tariff is adjusted to 45.4 sen/kWh from 45.62 sen/kWh approved in December 2024. The current base tariff of 39.95 sen/kWh was set from 2022 to 2024. - FMT
