Politician Gang Robbery Mastermind Still At Large Lawyer

A lawyer has questioned why two alleged masterminds of a 2021 robbery against his client are still at large despite charges being brought against two current and one former MACC officers over the case.
One of the alleged masterminds is purportedly a politician.
At a joint press conference with Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng in Bangsar today, the lawyer Guok Ngek Seong said his client, China businessperson Kun Gao, had lodged the report immediately after the robbery.
The police subsequently arrested five individuals and initiated an investigation, but Guok (above, left) claimed there was no further progress in the case until two years later after he sought Lim’s assistance.
On Wednesday, MACC officers Muhammad Haffiz Mohd Radzi, Mohd Fahmee Mohamad Nor, and former officer Azwan Asli, pleaded not guilty in two separate Kuala Lumpur Sessions Courts to gang robbery charges.
Bernama reported that the trio were accused of robbing Kun out of RM952,690 and ¥1,225 (RM805) in cash, a silver baggage bag and a black Louis Vuitton bag.
They allegedly committed the gang robbery at a unit at Ritz Carlton Residence, Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur, around noon on Dec 10, 2021.
However, Guok noted that the other two individuals are still at large. He revealed that the two masterminds are a married couple, with one of them being a political figure.
“According to my client, one of them is active in politics […] (They) are a married couple.
“My client believes they are the masterminds. At the time, the three MACC officers came together with the couple. They (the couple) are behind this whole thing. Without them, this case wouldn’t have happened.
“Of course, these three MACC officers are still accomplices,” he said.
When asked, Guok disclosed that the political figure is a male member of a ruling party but is not an MP or assemblyperson. However, he refused to name the person.

Meanwhile, Lim said he had written to law enforcement agencies in September to enquire about the progress of the case but did not receive a response.
Subsequently, in November, he raised the issue in parliament. In a written response from the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Azalina Othman Said, she said decision-making power on this matter lies with the attorney-general.
Following this, he wrote to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim urging him to take action.
“I implore our prime minister to take action because this case has dragged on for too long […] Yes, on Dec 13, three MACC officers had just been charged for gang robbery.
“So now I have one question for the attorney-general. My question to the attorney-general is: What took you so long?”
“I believe the attorney-general owes an explanation to the victim and all law-abiding citizens,” he said. - Mkini
