Police Probe Pas Leaders Over Anti Non Muslim Remarks

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said police are also investigating Permatang Pauh member of parliament Muhammad Fawwaz Mohamad Jan for a separate case for remarks seen as prejudiced against non-Muslims. - NSTP/MIKAIL ONGKUALA LUMPUR: The Home Ministry has confirmed that the police are currently investigating Pas President Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang over remarks he made that were deemed anti-non-Muslim.
Its Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said police are also investigating Permatang Pauh member of parliament Muhammad Fawwaz Mohamad Jan for a separate case for remarks seen as prejudiced against non-Muslims.
Both men, he said, are being investigated under Section 505(c) of the Penal Code for statements conducing to public mischief and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities.
"Police have opened investigation papers for each case.
"Since both cases are currently being investigated by the police, I will refrain from making any further comments that may interfere with the ongoing investigation," he said in a parliamentary written reply to Bagan MP Lim Guan Eng recently.
Lim had requested an update from the minister regarding the police report filed against two Pas leaders, seeking information on any progress made to date.
In a Facebook post in August last year, Hadi, who is also Marang MP, had claimed that non-Muslims and non-Bumiputeras were the "root of corruption" in the country and biggest groups damaging Malaysia's politics and economy.
Meanwhile, Fawwaz was accused of uploading a post earlier this year claiming that infidels, or "kafir," were trying to topple Islam, but he blamed the page administrator for uploading the statement. - NST
