Police Have Not Received Any Reports On Maghrib Azan Being Sounded Early In Kuala Krai

State police chief Datuk Shafien Mamat said police would not interfere in the matter as it was under the jurisdiction of the respective religious department. -NSTP/SHARIFAH MAHSINAH ABDULLAHKOTA BARU: Police will leave it to the religious authorities to probe the case where a mosque bilal in Kuala Krai had mistakenly sounded the Maghrib azan about four minutes earlier yesterday.
State police chief Datuk Shafien Mamat said police would not interfere in the matter as it was under the jurisdiction of the respective religious department.
"State police are aware of the incident where many people in Guchil 7, Kuala Krai, broke their fast earlier by mistake yesterday.
"But l would like to confirm today we have so far not received any report on the incident. If we receive a report, it will be referred to the respective religious department," he said.
He told this to reporters after breaking fast with local media practitioners at the state police headquarters here today.
Shafien was commenting on the incident where Kuala Krai residents had mistakenly broken their fast early when the Maghrib azan was sounded by a bilal from a mosque in Guchil 7 yesterday.
The bilal, however, has apologised for the mistake.
The incident was the second during Ramadan this year.
Many people in Tawau recently broke their fast early by mistake when the Maghrib call on Radio Tawau was broadcasted a few minutes earlier due to technical problems.
The radio presenter on duty, Mohd Safwa Junit, had also apologised for the mistake which led to the Maghrib call being broadcasted twice.
The first Maghrib azan was sounded at 6.16 pm, which is 4 minutes earlier than the second azan which was sounded at 6.20 pm. - NST
