Sentul police chief Ahmad Sukarno Zahari said the remand for the first suspect had been extended to tomorrow. (Bernama pic)KUALA LUMPUR: A second suspect in the alleged cyberbullying of TikTok influencer A Rajeswary, better known as Esha, has been detained, says Sentul police chief Ahmad Sukarno Zahari.
He said the 44-year-old male suspect, who works as a lorry driver, was arrested at 6.30pm yesterday in Setapak, Berita Harian reported.
Sukarno said the remand for the first suspect in the case had been extended until tomorrow. The woman, who works as a caretaker at a senior care centre, was arrested on Monday at 1.45am at Jalan Cempaka 2, Bukit Beruntung Golf Resort, Rawang.
The arrests of both suspects followed a report made by a 39-year-old man at 4.13pm on Saturday about threats received by Rajeswary, 29, through TikTok, Sukarno said.
Previously, an activist called on the government to take action following Rajeswary’s death.
David Marshel stated that the woman was harassed by several individuals, most of whom used pseudonyms or fake accounts.
Sukarno said the first suspect did not know the victim personally and only knew of her through TikTok.
The suspect allegedly uploaded a video containing profanities, using the victim’s picture as its background.
The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation, which provides for up to seven years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both; Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which provides for up to a year in prison, a fine of up to RM50,000 or both; and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 for insulting behaviour, which provides for a fine not exceeding RM100.
A day before her death, Rajeswary, who was also a Hindu rights activist, filed a police report against two people for allegedly harassing her on TikTok. - FMT
