Pn Must Discuss With Bersih Before Joining Protest On Najib S Pardon Hamzah
Perikatan Nasional secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin said his coalition has not been invited by Bersih to join its protests against convicted former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak’s pardon.
PN and Bersih cannot simply cooperate on this one issue and must “agree to disagree” on other issues if they were both to collaborate, he said during a press conference at PN headquarters in Publika, Kuala Lumpur this evening.
“They cannot just invite us to come along on one issue, it cannot be like that.
“Because you must understand, we are all politicians here. Whereas Bersih does not have a party, it’s okay for them. We have a party.
“We have to look at our ideology, policies that are so constitutional to our party,” he said.
On Tuesday, Bersih chairperson Muhammad Faisal Abdul Aziz revealed that the electoral watchdog has not ruled out the possibility of holding a street protest against the reduction of Najib’s prison sentence.
Last Friday, the Pardons Board announced its decision to halve Najib’s jail time from 12 years to six.
It also reduced the fine on the former premier from RM210 million to RM50 million.
Meanwhile, Hamzah said PN and Bersih must do things according to their own methods.
“If they want to go down (to protest), it’s not like they can say, ‘we want to go, do you want to come along?’ It’s not like that.
“We have to sit down and discuss, what’s the issue? What kind of issues can we fight for together?
“They should allow us to agree or disagree on certain things. Only then can we cooperate,” he said.
