Pn Firing Blanks About Umno Working With Dap Says Zahid
Barisan Nasional chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (centre) arriving at a Deepavali event in Bagan Datuk, Perak.BAGAN DATUK: Perikatan Nasional are resorting to random attacks against Umno, by claiming that the party would work with a coalition that included DAP, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said tonight.
He said the attack was because PN’s hope for a “big tent” of all parties had not come about. “That is why they are not firing targetted shots, they’re firing randomly,” he said after a Deepavali event, here.
“Big tent” is a term used by Pakatan Harapan chairman Anwar Ibrahim for an alliance of all opposition parties against Barisan Nasional.
In March, Zahid had said that Umno would not form an alliance with DAP, Bersatu or Anwar.
At tonight’s event, Zahid was also asked how he planned to assure the people that Ismail Sabri Yaakob was BN’s only candidate for the prime minister’s post after the elections.
Zahid said he had faith in the wisdom of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to select the next prime minister using his authority under the Federal Constitution.
“I am confident that the Agong in his wisdom, will decide who will be the prime minister once BN obtains a sufficient majority to form the government,” he said.
Zahid played down reports that Umno’s election machinery was weak in certain areas by saying the support of voters was equally important.
He said he was confident that the weaker parts of BN’s machinery would be strengthened to garner support not only from members of BN component parties but also from fence sitters. - FMT
