Pm Orders Cops To Probe Slanderous Remarks Fahmi
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has instructed the police to take action against parties that have made slanderous or excessive remarks that could threaten the country’s harmony.
PKR information chief Fahmi Fadzil said the matter was discussed during Pakatan Harapan’s presidential council meeting today.
“He (Anwar) revealed that he has no intention to take action on those who have made an issue (minor issues) about his capals (sandals) and slippers.
“But we draw the line on slanderous accusations such as being an Israeli agent.
“The prime minister has asked the police to take action,” Fahmi (above) told reporters after the meeting, which took place at the PKR headquarters earlier this evening.
He also appealed to the public to respect the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s decree for Malaysians to be united.
“Statements that are racially slanderous need to be stopped.
“This is the time for us (the government) to serve, and we hope that no one has the intention to break the law,” he added.
Before and after the 15th general election, several quarters have taken to social media to incite racial and religious sentiments.
Most of the attacks are levelled at Harapan, which takes pride in being a multiracial coalition.
PAS president Abdul Hadi AwangEarlier today, Malaysiakini reported that PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang has accused DAP of promoting Islamophobia by attacking his party.
His speech comes following police reports lodged by Harapan leaders and supporters against online hate allegedly spread by PAS members and supporters during and after GE15.
During a ceramah on Nov 16, Perikatan Nasional chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin claimed that Harapan was “an agent of Jews and Christians” who were out to colonise Malaysia.
However, he later claimed that his remark was taken out of context and was “selectively edited”.
Several posts about a possible repeat of the deadly May 13, 1969 race riots were also found on TikTok several days after polling day.
Harapan leaders had also claimed that children were returning from school with anti-Harapan propaganda, where the coalition is painted as an anti-Islam movement. - Mkini
