Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim hosted a meeting with Chinese automaker Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Chairman Li Shufu today. - Pic courtesy of PMOKUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim hosted a meeting with Chinese automaker Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co Ltd (Geely) earlier today.
In his posting on X, Anwar said that he had met with the Geely chairman, Li Shufu together with Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Albukhary and Investment, Trade and Industry minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz.
"This meeting is proof that Geely follows the committed investment of RM32 billion that I announced as part of my official visit to China at the end of March this year."
Yesterday, Anwar told the Dewan Rakyat that the meeting with Geely was to shut down rumours made by certain quarters that the US$10 billion (RM45 billion) investment made into Malaysia did not happen.
He said this in response to Tan Kar Hing (PH-Gopeng) who asked the Prime Minister to state the outcomes of overseas visits including investments, cooperation with other countries and the confidence level of foreign investors in Malaysia.

Anwar also said that following his meeting today, Geely had shared their plans to further increase investment in the country, including strengthening Malaysia as a vehicle manufacturing hub for export purposes.
"Geely will also increase its participation in the field of research and development as well as the provision of local skilled workers in line with the needs of the industry in the future.
"May this plan bear fruit for the national economy, Insyaallah," Anwar said.
Earlier this year, Anwar revealed that Geely would kick off an investment worth US$10 billion to turn Tanjung Malim in Perak into the region's largest auto city. - NST
