Pm Meets Embattled Sabah Cm Reps
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has met with Sabah Chief Minister Hajiji Noor and two state assemblypersons implicated in an alleged corruption scandal at his office in Putrajaya.
Sabah finance minister Masidi Manjun confirmed that the meeting took place yesterday.
Malaysiakini had asked him to respond to a photograph it had received, showing Anwar together with him and the state minister of science, technology and innovation Ariffin Arif.
“Just a normal routine meeting,” Masidi said when asked about the details.
Quizzed if the videos were discussed, he replied: “It was just a normal meeting.”
Asked if only Hajiji, Arifin, and himself were at the meeting, Masidi said: “There were many others from federal government ministries.”
Malaysiakini has contacted Ariffin and the Prime Minister’s Office for comment.
‘Rejected political donation’
On Tuesday, Masidi voluntarily went to the MACC in Kota Kinabalu to give a statement.
This was after a whistleblower released a video purportedly recorded at Masidi’s office on Jan 11, showing a conversation with the state minister and his aide about an alleged RM300,000 bribe.
The Karanaan assemblyperson also told Malaysiakini he did not recall the conversation on alleged bribes, but the whistleblower had purportedly offered a political donation, which he rejected.
The whistleblower, a businessperson, has released seven full recordings of his discussions, after leaking edited clips that implicated seven state assemblypersons and Hajiji.
Hajiji on Wednesday again dismissed the corruption allegations as attempts to destabilise the state government and tarnish its reputation.
Anwar has yet to respond to the latest videos but previously stressed that there will be no cover-ups in the MACC investigation into the alleged bribery scandal. - Mkini
