Pm Hints At Major Announcement For Sabah In Budget 2026

The government will announce something good for Sabah during the tabling of Budget 2026, scheduled for Oct 10, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. - NSTP/MOHD ADAM ARININKOTA KINABALU: The government will announce something good for Sabah during the tabling of Budget 2026, scheduled for Oct 10, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Anwar said his administration has the mandate to deliver benefits to the people that previous governments never implemented.
"The national budget, God willing, I will announce for Malaysia. And for Sabah, there will be a good announcement on Oct 10," he said at the Himpunan Tamu Rapat Umum held in conjunction with PKR's 27th Reformasi anniversary at Dewan Pisompuruan, Kampung Kobuni, here, today.
"We have power. People ask, what's the difference between having power and not having it? In the past, when they had power, they were busy chasing wealth — timber, land, projects for their children and wives to get rich.
"When they lost power, they were angry everywhere. Some even asked me to step down. But now, it's not Anwar who has stepped down, it's oil prices that have come down," he added.
"The point is, when we have power, that is when we should do our best. The real issue is how we use power when we have it, for the good of the nation. People ask what my dream is. I say I want the people to feel they have opportunities, whether from urban or rural areas, so they feel hopeful in Malaysia," he said.
Anwar, who is also finance minister, said that although he is not from Sabah, the state has received the highest allocation in Malaysia's history.
Meanwhile, he said he has also approved the long-standing request from Sabah and Sarawak for additional parliamentary seats, an issue raised for over 60 years.
"Recently in Kuching, we had a meeting to discuss adding parliamentary seats in Sabah and Sarawak. Since 1963, this request has been made every year.
"In that meeting, I announced it. Listen carefully: who promised to add seats for Sabah and Sarawak? And who approved it? It is the current Prime Minister who approved the increase," he said.
Anwar also said that the most important focus now is to help the people cope with the cost of living through various government initiatives.
He said the government has spent significantly to support the people through the Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) and Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (Sara), as well as salary increments for civil servants.
"Most people are receiving STR and Sara payments every month. How much is STR for the whole country in a year? RM15 billion," he said.
"How many civil servants, teachers, and others are we giving salary hikes to? This year, we added RM10 billion; next year, RM18 billion," Anwar added. - NST
