Pkr To Start Announcing Candidates Next Week Anwar
PKR is expected to announce its candidates for the upcoming Johor polls from early next week, said party president Anwar Ibrahim.
Anwar said the announcements will be done in stages pending discussions with Johor PKR chief Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh.
"If we agree, we will start announcing two or three candidates first, maybe early next week.
"Not all at once, just part of it," Anwar told a press conference in Johor Bahru after the launch of PKR Youth's election machinery today.
Asked to confirm rumours surrounding Simpang Renggam MP Maszlee Malik's candidacy and also as Pakatan Harapan's menteri besar candidate, Anwar said, "For now Harapan has no formal statement. But we are not rejecting any possibilities."
The opposition leader said PKR has a general policy for MPs to not contest a state seat, with various exceptions after considering factors including winnability and individual strength.
Simpang Renggam MP Maszlee MalikMaszlee, a former education minister, previously said he is ready to contest in Johor but downplayed speculations of his candidacy.
'Muda requested for seats'
Anwar confirmed that Muda had indicated its requests for a number of seats from PKR, aside from DAP and Amanah.
"They (Muda) have yet to announce (number of seats), so we will also not announce," the Harapan chairperson added.
Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman yesterday said the party's discussions are going smoothly with Harapan, and an announcement would be made upon its conclusion.
This time, PKR will be contesting with its own logo while DAP and Amanah will retain the Harapan symbol.
