Pkr President S Office Secretariat To Focus On Grassroots Sim
PKR deputy strategy director Sim Tze Tzin, who was appointed as one of five political secretaries of the president’s office, explained that their duties and functions are focused mainly on party grassroots.
Speaking to Malaysiakini, Sim (above) said the secretariat will play the role of helping less active divisions and become facilitators to solve the problems faced at that level.
“We are tasked to focus on activities and work movements in focused areas so that they are more active and organised.
“Our party (PKR) is the ruling party. Therefore, we need to empower the party at all levels, that is the president’s (Anwar Ibrahim) hope,” he said.
In addition to being an intermediary between the president with the divisions and branches, the Bayan Baru MP said the secretariat also functions to mobilise policies implemented by the coalition government.
“We are also tasked to see (if any) issues (related to the party’s constitution) that need to be revised because every party has its strengths and weaknesses.
“Among its duties and functions is to listen (to problems), attract more members and streamline as well as empower the divisions and branches.
“There are less active divisions, so we will help to find problems and solutions in problematic areas.
“We plan to bring more programmes such as the Rahmah programme and eKasih to those areas. So, this appointment shows that the president cares about the grassroots,” he added.
On Monday, PKR appointed five party leaders as members of the newly established President’s Office Secretariat.
President’s special team
Anwar said the secretariat is led by senior political secretary Romli Ishak, who will act as the coordinator.
Aside from Sim, other members are Onn Abu Bakar, Manivanan Gowin, and Juwairiya Zulkifli.
PKR President’s Office Secretariat member Juwairiya Zulkifli“The Secretariat of the President’s Office is entrusted to dignify and empower the party as well as to assist, monitor, and coordinate movements at all levels throughout the party.
“It is also entrusted with reviewing the party constitution to determine PKR’s direction and future as well as providing views and recommendations on current issues that arise in national politics,” Anwar said.
Juwairiya said the establishment of the secretariat is distinct and does not overlap with any position at the party or governmental levels.
“There is no overlap (of power) with the divisions or branches as this is a special team under the president.
“The secretariat will further strengthen the party by helping the president’s office in party duties,” he said.
Sim also clarified that the concern regarding overlapping powers with existing positions is not an issue as their roles are not to control or make decisions on behalf of the divisions or branches.
“We only act as assistants,” he added. - Mkini
